Members of the public are being encouraged to beat the January blues and get fit while going the extra mile for a fantastic community cause.

Warrington Running Festival (WRF) takes place on Sunday 21 September – and as a gold partner of the 2025 event Warrington and Halton Teaching Hospitals Charity is giving you the opportunity to take part in the half marathon at a discounted booking rate of £15.60 (instead of the standard £30 booking fee). All we ask is that you commit to raising a minimum of £200.

More than 6,000 runners from across Warrington, Halton and surrounding areas put their best foot forward last year, with participants able to choose from a number of distance options including a 5km, 10km, 13-mile half marathon and a junior’s race.

Now we want to hear from people in Warrington and Halton who may be interested in taking part in this year’s event on behalf of WHH Charity, which raises funds to provide additional comforts, care or experiences for the direct benefit of patients and their families beyond that which the NHS is able to provide.

Thanks to the support of dedicated fundraisers, we are able to improve patient environments, fund additional equipment or facilities, or provide important complimentary services to enhance our patients’ overall experience while in our hospitals.

Helen Higginson, Head of Fundraising at the charity, said: “We are delighted to be an official partner of the 2025 Warrington Running Festival – one of the biggest events in the town’s calendar.

“The festive season is well known for being a time for celebrating and overindulging, and now the festivities have come to an end we know that many of you will be looking to start the new year in the best possible way.

“Taking part in this year’s half marathon, or one of the smaller course events, is the perfect opportunity to get fit and boost your mental health and wellbeing, all while supporting hospital patients through our Warrington and Halton Teaching Hospitals Charity. Whether you are already a running fan or just starting out, there is a course available to suit everyone.”

The running festival takes place around Warrington town centre, starting and finishing at the Town Hall’s iconic Golden Gates, and has a road closed, flat and fast route to enable participants to aim for a chip timed, personal best.

Ben Green, the co-founder of RunThrough which organises the annual event, said: “We are incredibly excited to see Warrington Running Festival return to the town later this year.

“It’s always a joy to see the community come together while supporting local charities including Warrington and Halton Teaching Hospitals Charity. Whether you’re aiming for a personal best or simply enjoying the festive atmosphere, there’s something for everyone at this event.”
