Pulmonary Rehabilitation Team step up for 36 mile walking challenge
Thursday 26 February 2026
This year WHH Charity is celebrating its 30th birthday with a 30 for 30 challenge, and the Pulmonary Rehabilitation Team are stepping up to take part.
On Sunday 8 March, twelve participants will be lacing up their walking boots to celebrate this special milestone and give back to Warrington and Halton Teaching Hospitals (WHH) Charity.
The team, which includes members of the pulmonary rehabilitation service along with their children, will take on a collective 36 mile walking challenge at Haigh Hall in Wigan.
The charity has recently funded more than £1,000 worth of much needed exercise equipment to support the pulmonary rehabilitation programme. In recognition of that support, the team are now raising funds as a thank you, helping the charity continue to make a difference for patients and services across Warrington and Halton.
The new equipment will enhance pulmonary rehabilitation classes currently held at Orford Jubilee Hub in Warrington and Ditton Community Centre in Widnes. These sessions provide vital support for people living with long term respiratory conditions.
The six-week exercise and education programme is designed to help patients improve their strength, stamina and confidence. Supervised exercise sessions focus on building endurance, directly supporting better breathing, while education sessions equip patients with the knowledge to manage their condition more effectively.
The impact can be life changing. Many patients experience fewer chest infections, improved mobility and greater independence. For some, it means returning to everyday activities that once felt out of reach.
Julie Pentony, exercise specialist in the Pulmonary Rehabilitation Team, said: “We see first hand the difference these sessions make. When someone tells us they can walk to the shops again without stopping or play with their grandchildren without feeling breathless, it is incredibly rewarding. This challenge is our way of giving something back to the charity that supports us.”
