Consultant takes on Mont Blanc challenge for WHH Charity's 30th anniversary

A consultant at North Cheshire and Mersey NHS Foundation Trust is preparing to take on one of Europe's toughest mountain climbs to raise funds for WHH Charity.

From 22 to 30 August, Solomon ‘Solo’ Pudi will attempt to climb Mont Blanc, the highest mountain in Western Europe, standing at 4,805 metres above sea level.

The challenge will see Solo complete specialist alpine training before attempting the summit, including climbing Gran Paradiso in Italy to acclimatise and practise using ropes, crampons and harnesses.

Although an experienced mountain climber who has previously climbed Mount Kilimanjaro, Solo says Mont Blanc presents an entirely new challenge, with steep technical terrain, unpredictable weather and demanding alpine conditions.

Speaking about why he is taking on the challenge, Solo said: “Last year I climbed Kilimanjaro and raised £405 for WHH Charity. This year, as the charity celebrates its 30th anniversary, I wanted to do something even bigger by taking on Mont Blanc.

“I've been training throughout the year with long hikes carrying weighted backpacks, but this challenge requires much more than fitness. I'll be learning new climbing techniques and working with specialist equipment in a mountain environment. It's a challenge I've never faced before, but one I'm really looking forward to.”

Funds raised will help WHH Charity continue supporting patients, families and staff by funding projects, equipment and enhancements that go above and beyond NHS funding.
