Community support blossoms thanks to local garden centres
Monday 27 October 2025
The outdoor spaces at Halton Hospital have been given a wonderful new lease of life thanks to the dedication of long-time volunteer Alison Kinross and the generous support of several local garden centres.
Alison, who served as a WHH Governor for six years and has volunteered with the charity for several more, was inspired to take on a new project after helping with the refurbishment of the Dementia Garden at Warrington Hospital.
“In June 2025, I visited Halton Hospital and was introduced to the fantastic teams at the Delamere Centre and the Occupational Therapy Unit,” Alison explained. “Both outdoor areas were in real need of some TLC, so I reached out to some wonderful local contacts – and they didn’t hesitate to help.”
Thanks to generous donations and ongoing support from The Wonky Garden, Notcutts Rivendell, Cottage Nurseries, and Cronton Garden Centre, both spaces have been transformed into welcoming, relaxing wellbeing gardens for patients and staff to enjoy.
The Occupational Therapy garden is now thriving, with patients and staff also benefiting from the produce grown on-site. The Delamere Centre garden is now a calming outdoor environment for patients, family, friends and staff to take a little time to relax.
“I’m so grateful to everyone who donated and supported this project,” Alison added. “It’s been a real community effort, and I hope everyone enjoys spending time in these much-improved outdoor spaces.”
WHH Charity and the hospital teams would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to Alison and all the local businesses involved for helping to make a difference to patients’ wellbeing.
