Autumn ball raises funds for Ophthalmology Sensory Garden at Warrington Hospital
Wednesday 29 October 2025
The generosity and support of staff, family and friends helped raise thousands of pounds for a bespoke sensory garden at the Ophthalmology Autumn Charity Ball on Friday 17 October.
The event, held at The Village Hotel in Warrington, was organised by the department to raise funds for the WHH Charity Ophthalmology Sensory Garden Appeal, launched in memory of Tracey Parry, a much-loved Orthoptist who worked at WHH for more than 25 years.
The evening welcomed 120 guests who enjoyed a night of fun and laughter with stand-up bingo, a silent auction featuring a signed Champions League football and a raffle of generously donated prizes including chocolates, wine, spa experiences, tickets to shows and beauty vouchers.
The ball raised £3,931, bringing the total raised for the garden to £14,731 – edging closer to the £20,000 target needed to start work.
Debbie Kirk, Senior Assistant CBU Manager (Ophthalmology) at WHH, said: “Seeing the support has been truly moving. The sensory garden will provide a peaceful space for our patients, their families and staff, offering comfort and calm in the midst of a busy hospital day. Every donation reflects a shared commitment to making a difference, and to honouring Tracey’s legacy.”
The new sensory garden will be located outside the Ophthalmology Department at Warrington Hospital. It will provide a calm, welcoming space filled with sights, sounds and scents to support the wellbeing of patients, relatives and staff – particularly those who may find hospital visits overwhelming.
WHH Charity and the Ophthalmology Team are continuing their fundraising efforts and are inviting staff and the local community to get involved and help bring this important project to life.
Every donation will directly support the creation of the garden. To donate or find out more about the appeal, visit the dedicated appeal page, make a donation or contact the WHH Charity Fundraising Team on 01925 662666 or via whh.charity@nhs.net.
